Our Listing Criteria

At Recovery.com, we list any provider treating addiction and/or mental health in the United States. In a desire to be comprehensive and help patients make informed decisions, we list all licensed centers as well as sober living homes and peer support organizations.

Patients can see a range of treatment options available to them, as well as share their experiences and insights about various treatment centers and recovery services via reviews. This information is typically a matter of public record and public concern, so we do not remove listings.

We understand some treatment providers may prefer to maintain a low profile, but it is important—and a legal right—for helpful, transparent information about recovery services to be accessible.

If you need to update or change the information on your provider profile, you can do so by emailing [email protected]. Please provide any relevant updates or additional information to ensure accuracy, including if your facility is permanently or temporarily closed. (Note that closed facilities may still appear in Recovery.com search results to inform users that the facility is no longer in operation.)

At Recovery.com, our mission is to provide individuals seeking addiction and mental health treatment with comprehensive, accurate, and trustworthy information. We list all licensed treatment centers as well as sober living homes, peer support organizations, and other support resources across the continuum of care.

Advertising Policy

We recognize that individuals have diverse treatment needs and preferences. Therefore, we offer advertising opportunities to a wide range of treatment providers.

To maintain the integrity and quality of our platform, we assess each provider seeking to advertise based on our own research, information submitted by the provider, and data from government databases. Key criteria include:

Amenities and Accommodations

Centers must provide comfortable, clean, and safe environments for all facilities related to the treatment experience, including clinical facilities and residences.

Qualified Staff

Centers must employ qualified staff appropriate to each position and the level of care advertised. For example, a Clinical Director should have years of experience, formal training, and relevant licenses in addiction and/or mental health treatment.

Rounded Clinical Program

We include centers employing diverse treatment approaches, such as 12-Step, holistic, evidence-based, and individualized therapies. Higher quality centers typically offer a multifaceted set of therapies, with therapists equipped with a broad range of tools to address addiction and mental health needs.

Utmost Respect and Confidentiality

Centers must respect clients, which includes maintaining client privacy and confidentiality.

LegitScript Certification Requirement

To uphold the safety, credibility, and effectiveness of our advertising platform, advertisers are also required to hold a LegitScript certification. This ensures adherence to regulatory best practices and protects users seeking behavioral health and addiction treatment services.

Certification Requirement – Core Criteria

LegitScript certification is mandatory for advertisers that meet all of the following:

  • Operate in the United States or Canada
  • Provide Substance Use Disorder (SUD) primary treatment
  • Offer Intensive Outpatient (IOP) or higher levels of care, including Detoxification, Residential, or Inpatient treatment services
  • Advertise beyond their local designated market area

Tiers

We recognize that not all providers have the same scale or marketing budgets. To support fair access while maintaining safety standards, we apply a tiered approach:

1. Local Small Business

Advertiser visibility will typically be limited to a localized campaign and centers will not receive a verified badge.

2. Multi-Location Providers

  • One LegitScript certification per state, per brand, is sufficient for advertising in that state
  • Must list certified facility location(s) in campaign copy or landing pages

Compliance Monitoring

  • Advertisers are subject to periodic reviews of spend, location count, and certification status.
  • Falsifying information will result in immediate suspension.
  • Recovery.com reserves the right to adjust thresholds or enforcement in response to market conditions or regulatory shifts.
