The previous version of the Court House was $54 M. Now the stimulus program comes alone and somehow the cost doubles. Does anyone know why? Reply

Reply to Jeff : If the old version was build, like 60 Years ago, money back then had an other value(inflation) etc. Reply

This land was purchased by the Feds and has been sitting idle in downtown Austin for years. The existing court house was built in 1935 and the population here has increased by ten fold. We need more courtrooms and a modern building that will allow for the security concerns of todays society. As a CPA who works with construction contractors I can tell you that we are going to get great pricing on this project due to the economic slowdown. Reply

Reply to Brad McGrew : Then could you explain the big price increase. Construction costs are going down not up since 2006. The previous estimate was $54M. Reply

Reply to Jeff : One has to wait at see what the bids come in. So far most projects across the country are coming in 15-20% under the original estimate. Reply
